Trails

Yosemite National Park is home to some of the most scenic and spectacular hikes in the world.

Winter is also a magical time to visit Yosemite, with opportunities for hiking, and staying in quiet solitude. The silence and beauty of Yosemite in winter is an unforgettable experience.

Places

Half Dome and El Capitan rise from the central glacier-formed Yosemite Valley, as does Yosemite Falls, North America's tallest waterfall. Three Giant Sequoia groves and vast wilderness are home to diverse wildlife. Tuolumne Meadows is also a great area to visit.

Mountains

The park's elevation ranges from 600m to 4,000m, stretching from Giant Sequoia groves housing 200ft trees over 2,000 years old, to breath-taking valleys carved by glaciers, and home to the highest waterfall in America, to alpine meadows filled with rivers and lakes.

Ansel Adams.

"I knew my destiny when I first experienced Yosemite," wrote Adams, who first visited the park at the age of fourteen and returned every year of his life thereafter. The essence of Adams' in his long association with Yosemite is set every picture frame.

Memorable photographs of glacial lakes and craggy peaks, cascading waterfalls and granite monliths, lone tree and sylvan streams. Here are Moon and Half Dome, Clearing Water Storm, and El Capitan, Winter, Sunrise- images that have become veritable icons of the American wilderness.

Adams was not only a photographer but also a writter; you can find some writings about the park and its environment, and some essays that reveals the prescience of Adams' views on park-management issues, enhance this majestic photographic portrait of Yosemite National Park by America's foremost landscape photographer.
